Bohodukhiv

Bohodukhiv, a center of the district of the same name, is located on the right bank of the Merla river 58 km from Kharkiv. The town is first mentioned in chronicles in 1571 under the name of Dyakov Ostrog (burg). The town was established in 1681. The town territory is 1623 hectares of which 43% are developed. Population is about 21,000. There are two brickworks, asphalt plant, dairy plant, meat-processing plant, and cannery in town.

Valky 

Valky is an administrative center of the Valky district in the Kharkiv region. It is located 55 km from Kharkiv. The town was founded on the site of the Mozhaysk burg in 1644-1645. It was later renamed as fortress Valky, which became a district town of the Kharkiv province in 1780. The town occupies 1122 hectares, population 11,100. The town is situated along both banks of the Mzha river at the confluence with the Trushky river. Key industries: light industry, food-processing, construction materials, woodworking.


Vovchansk 

Vovchansk is a center of the district of the same name located 72 km from Kharkiv along the banks of the Vovcha river. Railway junction. The town emerged as Cossack settlement Vovchi Vody in 1674, with the town status granted in 1780. The town occupies the area of 2564 hectares, population 24,400. Local industry includes asphalt plant, construction materials plant, wagon plant, furniture factory, footwear factory, cotton-spinning factory, meat-processing plant, bakery plant, and oil-extraction plant.


Derhachi

Derhachi (Derkachi before 1943) is an administrative center of the Derhachi district, located near the Lopan' river, 12 km North-West of Kharkiv. It emerged as a small Cossack settlement approximately at the same time as Kharkiv, in 1660, being a station for military units. 

Zmiyiv 
Zmiyiv is the center of the district of the same name, located 42 km from Kharkiv in the right bank valley of the Siversky Donets' river at the confluence of the right-hand tributary of the Mzha river. Zmiyiv is first mentioned in the chronicles dating back to the Novhorod-Siversky prince Ihor Svyatoslavovych. The town status was first granted in 1797, then in 1948. The town was renamed Gotwald in 1976, with the old name Zmiyiv returned in 1991. The town area is 1478 hectares, population 20,800. A machine-building plant is the largest company in town. Zmiyiv also has paper mill, dairy plant, food-processing plant, packaging works, construction materials plant, printer's shop, and some repair shops.


Zolochiv 

Zolochiv is a district center of the Kharkiv region. Population is 12,800. The urban-type settlement Zolochiv has construction materials industries and food-processing plants.

Izyum 
Izyum is a town of regional subordination, center of the district of the same name, located 127 km from Kharkiv along both banks of the Siversky Donets' river, on the highway Kharkiv - Rostov-on-Don. Railroad junction on the Kharkiv-Debaltseve line. The settlement is known since 1571. The present name emerged in 1765, originating from the Izyumets' river and former Izyum ford, close to where the town was founded. The town area is 43.4 square kilometers, including 45% developed. The population is about 65,000. The leading sector of economy is manufacturing industry represented by instrument-making, optical and mechanical plants, Diesel locomotive repair plant, production of construction materials, furniture factory. Food-processing industry is also well developed.


Krasnokutsk

Krasnokutsk is a town of district subordination and center of the district of the same name. The town is located on the right bank of the Merla river (tributary of the Vorskla river, the Dnipro river basin) in the western part of the Kharkiv region.

Kupyansk

Kupyansk - The town was founded as Sloboda (free settlement) Kupyanka in 1655. It was granted the town status within the Izyum Regiment and included in the Kharkiv Regiment in 1685. In 1797, Kupyansk became part of the Sloboda Ukraine province with Kharkiv as capital. In addition to grain and cereals, local products also include vegetable oil, oilcake, baskets, and other wicker articles. 


Chuhuyiv 
Chuhuyiv is a town of regional subordination, center of administrative district of the same name. Located on the banks of the Siversky Donets' at the confluence of the Chuhuyivka river. Chuhuyiv was founded as a military settlement in early 17th century. It was granted the town status in 1780 for the first time, and in 1938 for the second time. The town occupies 12.2 square kilometers, population 38,300. The main industries include machine building and metalworking, production of construction materials, woodworking and food-processing.
